– Movie: Nashville by Robert Altman. Usually on Monday nights Alex and I go see a movie together, unfortunately for me he is fucking off to Paris for a month. Because of this, I am switching my schedule to do a Sunday morning movie on my own, I started last week with Nashville at Metrograph. Ben sent me three different reviews of the movie to read- including Pauline Kael’s. Even though I am annoyed with him right now I read all three. Anyway, this movie is amazing and there are not many more interesting things I could say that have not already been said. Metrograph added a video reminding people not to talk and go on their phones prior to the movie, I hope this will help to bring the curse which has fallen upon Metrograph audiences to an end
– Song: Dues by Ronee Blakely from Nashville. I have taken to imagining I can sing this and pretending to be Ronee Blakely throughout my apartment multiple times a day. My neighbors hate me, and I do not care. All of the actors playing musicians in the film wrote the songs which the perform, it is an amazing feat of artistry on all fronts.

    – Movie: Uptown Girls. I watched it for the first time the day after my 24th birthday. It was very moving for a girl like me. I’m still on my own personal teacup.
    – Song: Jersey Giant by Tyler Childers (never been released). The Evan Honer Julia Digrazia cover on spotify is not half bad. My dear friend Alex did this at karaoke, he sang like an angel. As he sang, I realized I knew all the lyrics even though I had never listened to the song; I just knew it through times like this one. This then reminded me of my favorite passage from All the Pretty Horses: “So everything is necessary. Every least thing. This is the hard lesson. Nothing can be dispensed with. Nothing despised. Because the seams are hid from us you see, the journey. The way in which the world is made. We have no way to know what could be taken away. What omitted. We have no way to tell what might stand and what might fall. And those seams that are hid from of us are of course in the tale itself and the tale has no abode or place of being except in the telling only and there it lives and makes it home and therefore we can never be done with the telling.”
It’s nice to know we may realize we know how the song goes, even if we’ve never sat down alone and listened.

    – Movie: Rewatched Les Demoiselles de Rochefort at Metrograph on Wednesday. A beautiful film watched in a room full of idiots. I mean really we should all stop going to the movies until we can figure out how to do it properly. Second time someone has taken photo of a movie I’ve been to in a week.
    – Song: Bartender, T-Pain and Akon
    – Experience: Picking up a friend who you haven’t seen in years at the airport. Going to start going to the international arrival section of JFK just to observe the wonderful art of the reunion..

    – Movie: I know what you did last Summer. It was my favorite because it was the worst movie I’ve seen in so long. It was astoundingly bad.and i left feeling deeply depressed. I laughed at it a lot, but not for the right reasons. A movie has to take itself seriously, no matter how stupid it is. watched in a reclined chair which made the whole thing worthwhile.
    – Song: Freakum Dress
    – Experience: Skinny Dipping at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre Center.

    – Movie: Y Tu Mamá También, I like when something everyone assumes is sleazy is actually just sweet. Rewatched twice in one weekend.
    – Song: The one my ex- boyfriend recommended on his twitter probably, it’s really good.
    – Experience: Singing Need You Now at Winnie’s. Incomparable Catharsis.
